Ivan Toney has shared that Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane is better than him at penalties because the England captain has done it on a ‘bigger stage’, as he told his press conference.

The Brentford striker also added that he is ‘privileged’ to play alongside the ‘big names’, such as Kane, as he prepares for his England bow.

He has earned his first England call-up and he will be looking to impress Gareth Southgate during these forthcoming internationals.

The former Newcastle United player has scored five Premier League goals this season, including a hat-trick against Leeds United, which included a ice-cold penalty.

Toney is known for his unique penalties because he does everything in slow motion, with no rush, and with pure composure, as he simply walks towards the ball and then picks his corner.

But now he is on the international stage, then he is going to have some competition, no more so than from England’s main man, as the Brentford star spoke about Kane as a player.

On playing alongside big names such as Kane: “Privileged,” said Toney. “It’s massive, as you said big names I am playing with. I take it in my stride. Hopefully, I get some more playing time with them.

Toney chuckles when he is told ‘Harry Kane takes penalties’ before being asked ‘who is the best?’ to which he responded: “Listen, he has done it on a bigger stage, so I would say, Harry Kane.

“I like a lot of strikers. I do like Harry Kane, when he gets a chance, then 9/10, it’s in the back of the net.”

TONEY PUSHING FOR THAT WORLD CUP SPOT

Tammy Abraham is the other striker selected by Southgate and it seems as though the duo will fight it out for a spot in Qatar for the 2022 World Cup.

On one hand, Toney is on the Premier League stage and will feel he is playing under a bigger spotlight, but Abraham is playing for a big club in Roma and also in Europe.

It will be interesting if both continue to fire during these coming months, whether Southgate takes three strikers to Qatar.

But given the versatile nature of the other attackers in his side, then it’s highly unlikely. Plus, aside from injury, Kane is going to lead the line for every minute of the 2022 World Cup.
