According to Richard Keys’ sources, Rafa Benitez has applied for the Leicester City job, despite the fact there is no vacancy at the King Power Stadium currently.
Of course, logic would suggest that it may not be long before Brendan Rodgers is removed from his post as the manager of the Foxes. After all, the East Midlands club are bottom of the league right now.
Keys was taking issue with some comments Benitez made about his time as Everton manager when he claimed that he’s heard the Spaniard has applied for the Leicester job.
If this is true, we have to wonder whether Leicester will consider the 62-year-old’s application.
Benitez is, of course, a very accomplished manager. He’s led some of the biggest clubs in the world to the biggest trophies on the planet, but his powers have waned in recent years.
He was relegated with Newcastle United, and he was well on his way to taking Everton down during his time at Goodison, and with Leicester in such a precarious position, perhaps they should go with a manager who has a better recent track record.

On the other hand though, when Benitez is at his best he’s capable of taking teams to the very top of the game. He took an unfancied Valencia side to two La Liga titles and famously led Liverpool to a Champions League, but that was nearly 20 years ago at this point.
Leicester City need to tread carefully if they’re going to replace Rodgers, and if they’re looking at Benitez, they need to do their due diligence and consider his recent record in the Premier League with both Newcastle and Everton.
