Bruno Fernandes has been speaking to The Athletic about life at Manchester United, where he made a comment on Arsenal and Tottenham target Wilfried Zaha.

What’s the story?

Well, the Portugal international was quizzed on his tendency to shout at officials, where he referred to the £130,000-a-week Crystal Palace man.

Fernandes said: “I play for Man United, so I know all the cameras are on our players, but everyone in the Premier League does that. At Crystal Palace, Zaha is always moaning at the referee. It is because he gets fouled, so it is normal he moans at the referee. That’s normal! He wants his fouls and for the referee to give yellows.”

His comments come after Tottenham expressed late interest in signing Zaha before the September 1st deadline, as they also considered a move for Dan James.

Arsenal also had the Ivory Coast international on their shortlist over the summer, while Chelsea entered talks to sign the Crystal Palace No.11 at one point.

Zaha has enjoyed a fantastic start to the Premier League campaign, scoring four goals in five appearances so far.

With the 29-year-old’s contract set to expire in July, you can understand why Arsenal and Tottenham are circling.

Arsenal & Tottenham set to do battle

In our view, Zaha could be involved in one of the most interesting transfer sagas of 2023.

A player of his quality is not often available for free, and the expectation is that the Ivorian will leave Crystal Palace this summer given the fact he handed in a transfer request in 2019.

With Arsenal and Tottenham in good shape to qualify for the Champions League this season, the north London pair could be set to fight it out for Zaha in the summer of 2023, as both aim to add quality depth to their squads.

Of course, Mikel Arteta or Antonio Conte will have to stay on top of his “moaning” – as Fernandes put it – to ensure it does not land him in trouble with the officials.

Nevertheless, whoever manages to sign Zaha in 2023 could get themselves the biggest bargain in the market.
