Paul Onuachu has been speaking to HLN about his future, where he made an admission about Wolves and Sasa Kalajdzic.

What’s the story?

Well, the Nigeria international has revealed that Wolves chose to sign the Austria international instead of him in the summer transfer window.

Onuachu said: “To be honest, I am tired of talking about transfers. Wolverhampton, but it didn’t materialise. They went for another. He apparently injured himself badly in his first match. The English transfer market had closed by then. So, they could only get transfer-free players and ended up with Diego Costa. That’s football, eh.”

As you can see, the KRC Genk striker is aware of Kalajdzic’s injury.

Sadly, the 25-year-old suffered a serious knee injury just minutes into his debut against Southampton, damaging his anterior cruciate ligament.

Kalajdzic has since undergone surgery, and is now facing nine months on the sidelines.

With the transfer window already shut before that unfortunate incident, Wolves were forced to dip into the free agent market, where they found Diego Costa.

Paul Onuachu may have shone for Wolves

Had Wolves opted for the Nigerian instead of Kalajdzic, we believe he would’ve been a success at Molineux.

The 28-year-old impressively scored 23 goals in all competitions last season, having netted 35 goals in the 2020/21 campaign prior to that one.

Onuachu certainly knows where the back of the net is, and it will be interesting to see if Wolves resurrect their interest in the summer of 2023.

By that point, he will have just 12 months remaining on his contract with KRC Genk, so a deal could be done.

However, Wolves may prefer to rely on Costa as they wait for Kalajdzic to recover, given the fact they invested £15.4m in the 6ft 7in striker – only time will tell what happens at Molineux.
