According to UOL, Liverpool have decided to bring their transfer plans for June 2023 forward to January, with Matheus Nunes and Enzo Fernandes in their sights.
What’s the story?
Well, the Reds sat on their hands over the summer with Jürgen Klopp insistent that he didn’t need another midfielder, until that stance changed late on.
However, the German’s refusal to dip into the market earlier saw Liverpool lose out on Nunes to Wolves, who secured a club-record £38m deal to sign the Portugal international from Sporting Lisbon.
Despite that, the Reds still have Nunes at the top of their transfer shortlist – according to UOL – and will attempt to sign him from Wolves in January.
Of course, that will be difficult seeing as the 24-year-old has only just arrived at Molineux.

However, Julian Ward – Director of Football at Anfield – has a good relationship with Jorge Mendes, which UOL believe will benefit Liverpool when negotiations begin.
The pair worked closely on a £64m deal for Darwin Nunez over the summer.
Liverpool are said to have tracked Nunes for a number of months, and have been left impressed by his start to life in the Premier League at Wolves.
Liverpool could sign Enzo Fernandez if Matheus Nunes is unavailable
If Liverpool struggle to lure Nunes away from Molineux, then Klopp has a backup option.
UOL believe Benfica maestro Enzo Fernandez is also on the German’s radar, having enjoyed a stunning start to life in Portuguese football following a summer move from River Plate – another deal overseen by Mendes.
In truth, both players could be signed.
The 21-year-old scored three goals in his first three games for Benfica, and his efforts could earn him a January move to Anfield.
By the sounds of it, Liverpool are more than aware that their midfield needs a significant overhaul, with plans to do that now being moved forward to January.
