Well, Ben White of Arsenal has been omitted from the latest England squad.

Today, Gareth Southgate named his latest selection for upcoming Three Lions fixtures against Italy and Germany in the Nations League.

And although Arsenal duo Aaron Ramsdale and Bukayo Saka were included, there was no space for the £50 million defender.

Eric Dier of Tottenham Hotspur earned a recall but Harry Maguire being selected again, despite falling out of favour at Manchester United, has been a controversial inclusion.

And Darren Bent cannot believe or understand how the Gunners defender is less deserving of a place than the Red Devils man.

He told talkSPORT: “How can Maguire be in the squad and Ben White not be? I need someone to tell me a reasonable argument. By trade, Ben White is a centre-half. Maguire’s got no form and he’s not playing.”

It’s a fair argument by Bent.

White has started all six of Arsenal’s Premier League games this season, whereas Maguire hasn’t started under Erik ten Hag in a top-flight game since the 4-0 drubbing by Brentford.

For the sake of balance, White has been playing right-back for most of this season, but even then he’s comfortably been out-performing people like Trent Alexander-Arnold in this role.

Arsenal supporters won’t be too bothered if their former Brighton defender makes it to the World Cup later this year, because that would keep him fresh for the second half of the campaign, but the player himself must be disappointed and, honestly, probably puzzled, too.
