Viking FK defender Sebastian Sorlie Henriksen admits that his ‘big dream’ is a future at Premier League outfit Newcastle United, speaking to the Stavanger Aftonbladet.

Before he can really think about turning that ‘dream’ into reality, however, 20-year-old Henriksen will need to force his way into the first-team picture at his current club.

The former Norway U18 international is currently on loan at third-tier outfit Egersunds IK. Furthermore, he’s made just one, single appearance in the Norwegian Eliteserien to date.

And, for context, Henriksen is older now than compatriot Erling Haaland was when he joined Borussia Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg nearly three years ago, even if that does feel like a relatively unfair comparison to make.

Henriksen, then, has a long way to go before he can realistically harbour hopes of catching Newcastle’s eye.

“The aim is to go as far as possible,” Henriksen said when asked about his own ambitions. “And the big dream is Newcastle.”

Newcastle United is the dream move for Sebastian Sorlie Henriksen

Exactly why Henriksen hopes to play at St James’ Park one day is anyone’s guess. It’s not as if Newcastle – unlike Manchester United or Leeds for instance – have a track record of signing Norwegian footballers. In fact, Ronny Johnsen is the only Norwegian to have donned black-and-white in the Premier League era. And he only made three appearances for the Magpies during the twilight of his career in 2004/05.

One young player who does appear to be on his way to Tyneside, however, is 17-year-old Garang Kuol. According to the Australian edition of BeIN Sports, Kuol has agreed personal terms and will sign a four-year deal worth £25,000-a-week at St James; a relatively eye-watering contract for one so inexperienced.

The Egypt-born Central Coast Mariners wonderkid could feature for the Socceroos in the Qatar World Cup.

Barcelona boss Xavi, meanwhile, was taken aback by Kuol’s talent and maturity during a recent pre-season clash against the A-League All Stars.

“He did really well,” Xavi smiled. “He created many chances and almost scored. He’s 17? Maybe he’s a big liar! At (seventeen), that’s unbelievable.”
