Italian site CMW claim that Graham Potter wants to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham and could look to tempt Spurs by including out-on-loan Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku in a deal – which would see Lukaku reunite with Antonio Conte.

Kane, 29, has made an excellent start to the 2022-23 campaign. Clocking up eight appearances in all competitions, the England skipper has five goals. Tottenham have won five, drawn two and lost one of those eight matches.

But his long-term future continues to be a major talking point. A player of Kane’s ability needs to be winning trophies. At Tottenham, there are doubts as to whether he is going to be able to do that. His current deal ends in 2024.

Bayern Munich are being strongly linked. But Potter is keen to have him at Chelsea, and with Todd Boehly splashing the cash, who knows what could happen. The report claims that Chelsea could even present a player-plus-cash deal.

Indeed, they could include Lukaku in a deal – who is currently on loan at Inter. He has only managed three appearances this season, due to injury. However, the report does make it clear that an issue with that, is Inter have a buyout clause.

Potter wants to sign Kane from Tottenham: Could include Lukaku

There are many reasons why this deal will not go ahead. The first being, Tottenham look better-placed than Chelsea at this current moment in time. They have a balanced squad, a winner in the dugout, and arguably, a better team.

Another point, is that Kane does love Tottenham – and would hardly want to join one of his side’s biggest rivals. Manchester City, or Manchester United, would be much more suited. Lastly, would Lukaku want to go the other way?

It is a deal that just does not make sense, and is unlikely to happen. But if Spurs struggle over the course of the next few months, and Chelsea rise under Potter – who knows. Football can change quickly.
