Inter Milan are reportedly set to open contract talks with star defender Milan Skriniar after the Slovakian international almost joined PSG this summer, with Tottenham also interested in signing the Serie A centre-back.

According to L’Interista, the Italian giants are plotting to hold discussions with the 27-year-old over signing a new contract, with Skriniar’s current deal set to expire in 2023 following a summer where PSG were chased the former Sampdoria titan for the majority of the window.

As per the report, Inter are ‘serious’ about signing Skriniar to a new contract after the defender failed to secure a summer move to PSG, with reports suggesting that a £70m offer was in the works to lure the Nerrazzuri superstar to the French capital in the final days of the window, with Tottenham also reportedly chasing the Slovakian defender.

However, as we now know, Skriniar remained in Milan with Inter, and now the Italian giants are working behind the scenes to extend the defender’s contract beyond 2023, with the Tottenham and PSG target regarded by many as one of the centre-backs in world football.

Whilst both UEFA Champions League sides have the financial capabilities to sign Skriniar, Inter’s intentions to keep Skriniar at the club and away from their European rivals could be enough to keep the defender in Lombardy, especially with the Serie A side experiencing success in recent years with the defender on their books.

Indeed, Skriniar has won both the Scudetto and the Coppa Italia in the past two seasons with Inter, and signing a new contract with the Italian giants could be a good career move for the defender given the lack of success the centre-back is likely to experience with Tottenham and PSG’s back luck in Europe.

Skriniar signing a new Inter contract seems sensible at this stage

It’s rare to suggest to a top player like Skriniar that rejecting a move to the Premier League or PSG is a good career move, but given Inter’s success in recent years, the centre-back could well be better-suited remaining at the San Siro despite interest from two huge European clubs.

After all, Skriniar has established himself as a proven winner at Inter and a key player for the Serie A giants, and under Simone Inzaghi, the defender can great more history with the Milan giants, something that could be more valuable than moving to a club like PSG or Tottenham.
