Tanguy Ndombele suffered a new low on loan from Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
HITC Sport wrote about how the Spurs loanee was taken off at half-time in Napoli’s 1-0 victory over Spezia.
Considering that their opponents had won only one of their six Serie A outings and had the second-worst goal difference in the division at the time, Ndombele failing to impress, to the point of being taken off midway through the game, was a pretty ominous indication that the Tottenham-owned midfielder was slipping back into old habits.
And Calciomercato certainly didn’t sugarcoat anything, either.

When reflecting on his 45-minute performance, the Italian outlet wrote: “The pace is already starting to be better than the match against Lecce, but he is not yet 100%. He has to grow a lot to be the protagonist in this Napoli.”
By ‘protagonist’ they’re talking about the Tottenham enigma being Napoli’s main man, their go-to-guy for influential moments.
And although Ndombele will come up with these moments every now and again, he isn’t going to be a reliable figure for the Italian outfit.
Talent has never been a question for Ndombele who, in terms of actual football ability, was among the best in the Lilywhites’ squad.
But for whatever reason, his mindset and mentality do not allow him to fully utilise his immense ability on a regular basis.
If Calciomercato want Ndombele to be a protagonist at Napoli, they’ll be waiting a long time.
