Paul Merson has admitted that he is ‘worried’ about Mohamed Salah‘s form for Liverpool this season.
Salah has been one of Europe’s most prolific goalscorers since joining the Reds from Roma during the summer of 2017.
This season began on a positive note after the 29-year-old signed a new contract at Liverpool, committing his best years to Jurgen Klopp and emphatically ending speculation about his future.
However, two goals from seven appearances across all competitions illustrate that the Egypt international has endured a difficult first month of the 2022-23 campaign.

Whether it’s the pressure of living up to the mega-money contract he signed or losing Sadio Mane – who joined Bayern during the summer – as a teammate remains to be seen.
But Merson has told Sportskeeda that there’s certainly something wrong with Salah and suggested that Mane’s departure has played a significant role in the Liverpool forward’s decline.
He said: “Mohamed Salah is still Liverpool’s main man, but I’m worried about his form a little bit. Sadio Mane and Salah always played well alongside each other and pushed each on, they were like Starsky and Hutch! Mane’s sale was one of the worst I’ve seen in recent years, I’ll never get tired of saying this.”
How much does Mohamed Salah earn a week?
According to the Daily Mail after signing his new contract, the former Chelsea winger is earning around £400,000 per week.
We saw a similar dip in form at Arsenal when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang signed his £350,000-a-week extension.
But hopefully for Liverpool the talismanic figure can rediscover his golden touch sooner rather than later because, honestly, the Reds, who have won two out of seven games this season, need him to.
