Jonathan Woodgate has lavished praise on a one-time Tottenham Hotspur target, labelling him ‘absolutely magnificent’.
The shock of the opening Champions League matchday arguably came in Italy last night when Napoli hammered Liverpool 4-1 at Stadio San Paolo, earning a 3-0 lead at the break.
And one player who starred against Jurgen Klopp’s outfit was a certain Kvicha Kvaratskhelia who, according to his agent, rejected a transfer to Tottenham in the past.
The Georgian winger was exceptional against Liverpool and former Spurs defender Woodgate is confident that a big move to the Premier League awaits the 21-year-old – who was substituted – at some stage.

He said to BBC Radio 5 Live last night: “I’m disappointed Kvaratskhelia’s gone off, because I was enjoying his performance. His pace, his power, he wants to beat his man. He’s another one who you can see going to the Premier League in the next few years. He’s been absolutely magnificent, Kvaratskhelia.”
This was a Fabio Paratici target, a legitimate one.
That’s because the player himself was a wanted man by Juventus when the Italian supremo was pulling strings of this kind in Turin for many years.
So when he was available earlier this year, it’s understandable that the Tottenham managing director was interested in him but, unfortunately for the North Londoners, they were unable to land him.
And it’s probably going to be a costly miss because any winger who can terrorise Liverpool at the age of 21 has a very bright future in the game and although we might see him in England eventually, it might be one of the big-spending Premier League outfits that nab him.
