Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has been discussing Manchester City and their plans this summer if Bernardo Silva had been sold to Barcelona.
The Portuguese midfielder was strongly linked with a move to Camp Nou throughout the transfer window, but City managed to keep hold of the former AS Monaco man despite strong interest from Barca.
Silva could’ve headed to La Liga this summer, and if he’d gone to Barcelona, the Premier League champions did have a plan in place for if Silva departed.
Indeed, according to Romano, the Sky Blues had a plan to go out and sign new West Ham star Lucas Paqueta in case Silva left the club.
What’s been said?
Romano discussed City’s plan to sign Paqueta this summer if Silva had left.
“Paul Pogba was one of the options when he was still a free agent, but Pogba decided not to continue in England. The main option for Man City in case of the Bernardo deal with Barcelona was Lucas Paqueta. He was really appreciated by Pep Guardiola, really appreciated by the board. They had some discussions with the agents, but it was never advanced because City were more than happy to keep Bernardo Silva. Paqueta was a serious option,” Romano said.
West Ham’s gain
This update from Romano just goes to show what a talented player West Ham have in the shape of Paqueta.
Indeed, if Man City thought the Brazilian was good enough to replace Bernardo Silva in their squad, then he must be a serious talent.
Manchester City, quite simply, don’t get many signings wrong, and if they genuinely believed Paqueta was good enough for their team, he should be an absolute star for West Ham.
We could look back on this one as one of the best signings of the summer for the Hammers.
