90Min claim Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City have held meetings to discuss a potential move to sign Barcelona talent Gavi in recent weeks – but it is clear that the Nou Camp side are desperate to keep him.
Gavi, 18, has broken into Barcelona’s side over the last 18 months – shining for both club and country. The La Masia academy product has clocked up 51 senior appearances for Barcelona, and 10 caps for Spain – even scoring once.
Barcelona were planning to hand Gavi a new, long-term deal on August 5 – when he turned 18. But that did not materialise, because of the club’s financial issues. So, his current deal is due to expire at the end of the season.
The report claims Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City have all held meetings regarding Gavi. They are keeping tabs on the situation and are preparing to move in case Gavi does not sign a new Barcelona deal.

Liverpool and Manchester City have held meetings to discuss Gavi
It is interesting to see what happens from here. From January 1, Gavi will be allowed to sign for a new club on a pre-contract basis. Barcelona will not want to lose him on a free, given their financial difficulties. So, they may have to sell.
Until January, they will be working hard to strike a deal where all parties are agreed. But they can also afford a deal. There is a very real chance of that not happening. That, in turn, may enforce a sale in the January transfer market.
Marca report that Barcelona have an £86million release clause in his current deal. But if clubs can sign him for nothing, Barcelona are not going to be able to charge that figure in January. Perhaps, half of that figure could get a deal done.
