Leeds United’s involvement in Bamba Dieng is dead as the dodo, but the saga might be still ongoing a while longer.
On deadline day yesterday, the Senegal international looked set to sign for the Whites in what would’ve been an £8.5 million transfer from Marseille.
Dieng was ready to fly to Leeds [The Daily Mail] to complete a medical before OGC Nice made a larger offer than the Premier League outfit.
That effectively killed United’s chances of signing him and when it emerged that he’d travelled there to undergo a medical, the Elland Road outfit were finished when it came to Dieng.
However, the player actually wound up staying at Marseille after failing that medical in a bizarre turn of events.
But the saga might not be over yet.
According to Dharmesh Sheth of Sky Sports, a transfer to Nice could still materialise due to a ‘joker’ rule in Ligue 1 regarding transfers.
Here’s what he tweeted about the former Leeds target.
Really, Leeds are the lucky ones in this equation and although some supporters will be furious, it’s best that he didn’t wind up travelling to West Yorkshire.
That’s because if he failed it at Nice, he would’ve failed it with Jesse Marsch’s side too and it would’ve been a far bigger waste of time in that scenario.
But Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani will be feeling a little sheepish after tweeting about the transfer before it was done and thankfully, the Whites got some business down regardless.
The Dieng saga isn’t over, but it is for United’s part.
