Tottenham Hotspur have signed Will Lankshear
Tottenham have today confirmed the signing of Sheffield United striker Will Lankshear, handing him a three-year deal.
The 17-year-old hit 38 goals in 48 games across appearances for United’s Under-18’s and Under-23’s.
Lankshear’s scholarship deal would have ended next summer and Sheffield United have chosen to cash in.
The Examiner claim that Tottenham’s deal for Lankshear could reach £2.5million – not bad for a player who was released by Arsenal a year ago.
Sheffield United took Lankshear in on a free transfer and gave him a chance to shine, with his form prompting Tottenham to strike a deal.
The report adds that Lankshear is actually a boyhood Tottenham fan despite his history with Arsenal.
Lankshear and his father are understood to have pushed for the move to North London, fulfilling something of a family dream.
Tottenham may well have been in the market for another young striker having sold Kion Etete to Cardiff City.
Add in the loan exits of Troy Parrott and Dane Scarlett to Preston North End and Portsmouth respectively, and you can see why Tottenham wanted another striker for their developmental ranks.
Lankshear will now have the chance to put the Spurs shirt on and develop into a star, just a year since he will have wondered what was coming next.
Arsenal may be left to wonder just what they missed with Lankshear, who will now be desperate to prove the Gunners wrong for letting him go.
