Football website 90Min report that Leeds and Everton could be about to miss out on PSV Eindhoven talent Cody Gakpo – with Southampton confident of striking a surprise deal to land the Netherlands international on deadline day.
Gakpo, 23, has been one of the most-talked about names this summer. Now, a conclusion to the saga surrounding his future looks set to rise to the surface. That is, despite PSV having another four years left on his current contract.
90Min report that Southampton are confident of completing a deal. They say that they believe the Saints are winning the race for Gakpo, ahead of four other Premier League clubs in the form of Leeds, Everton, Wolves and Leicester City.
Meanwhile, The Times report Southampton have agreed a club-record £34million move. It far eclipses the fee paid for Danny Ings. Gakpo has been in stunning form so far this season, clocking up seven goals and laying on six assists.

What a signing this is for Southampton. Indeed, what a signing it would be for any Premier League club. Even those in the top six. It would give the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham a brilliant rotational option.
So, for Southampton to completely smash their record transfer and bring Gakpo to the south coast is incredible. For the Saints to stave off the interest of four other Premier League clubs on deadline day, too. It deserves massive credit.
Whether or not Southampton do manage to pull off a deal, remains to be seen, on deadline day. But it looks more than likely that Gakpo will swap the red and the white of PSV Eindhoven, for the red and the white of Southampton.
