Shamar Nicholson has ‘decided to stay’ with Russian outfit Spartak Moscow despite interest from Premier League outfit Everton on deadline day, the Jamaica international’s agent tells Sport24

Depsite the recent £16 million signing of Neal Maupay from Brighton and Hove Albion, attacking reinforcements are still being sought by Kevin Thelwell, Frank Lampard, Farhad Moshiri and co as the 11pm deadline looms into view.

Per The Mirror (4.33pm), Everton are in contact with Blackburn Rovers over Ben Brereton-Diaz. Shamar Nicholson, however, feels like a bolt right out of the proverbial blue. The 6ft 4ins targetman is not a name that has been discussed with any great regularity in the gossip columns. But, according to The Mirror, the Toffees have now registered their interest with Spartak Moscow.

Everton, however, appear to be barking up the wrong tree. Despite Nicholson’s lack of minutes recently, he is not giving up on his Spartak Moscow career so readily.

Spartak Moscow’s Shamar Nicholson not keen on Everton move

“The story of him not playing is really strange,” explains Nenad Protega, the 25-year-old’s representative.

“Due to the lack of playing time, we communicated with the player about a possible move to another club. However, Shamar decided to stay at Spartak and fight for a place in the first team.

“Nicholson feels great in Moscow and at Spartak. From the very first day, he did not let anyone doubt his faith and love for the club.”

Nicholson scored five times in just eight starts after joining Spartak in December. He also found the net on 13 occasions in his final 18 matches for Belgian outfit Charleroi.
