Aston Villa want Lucas Moura and could launch a last-gasp bid to sign the Tottenham Hotspur winger on deadline day.

Villa lost yet again on Wednesday night, falling to a 2-1 defeat away at Arsenal.

Steven Gerrard is under enormous pressure and he may turn to the transfer market to try and solve Villa’s problems.

A deal for winger Ismaila Sarr fell through earlier this month and Villa could now turn their attention to Tottenham’s Moura.

Aston Villa want Lucas Moura

The Telegraph report that Villa are interested in Moura and could now launch a deadline day bid for the Brazilian.

Tottenham want Daniel James from Leeds United, who would in turn target Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker Hwang Hee-chan.

Villa seemingly hope that, if James makes the move to North London, Moura will be made available.

The problem here is that Tottenham are eyeing James as a replacement for Bryan Gil, who looks set to join Valencia on loan.

Clubs allegedly believe that Moura will be made available though and Tottenham may be tempted to cash in with the wide man having just two years left on his contract.

By that time, Moura will be approaching 32 and his value is only likely to diminish in the run-up to his deal expiring.

Moura is down the Tottenham pecking order too, playing just 12 minutes in the Premier League this season.

Moura wasn’t even in the Tottenham squad to face Nottingham Forest or West Ham United, with Antonio Conte confirming am issue with tendon inflammation.

Conte did though call Moura ‘wonderful’ and ‘one of the best players’ in the Tottenham squad at the end of 2021.

Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison have arrived since then though, pushing Moura down the pecking order.

Moura can play first-team football at Villa, certainly more than he will at Tottenham, and this is a deal to keep an eye on in the final hours of the window.
