Daily Mail reporter Craig Hope claims Championship side Sunderland are close to completing a move for Manchester United attacker Amad Diallo on loan this summer – with Tony Mowbray now confirmed as the club’s new manager.

Mowbray was announced as Sunderland manager on Tuesday, after Alex Neil left the club to take over at Stoke City. It seems as if the ex-Blackburn manager will instantly be making signings before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

Ivory Coast international Diallo only managed one senior appearance for Manchester United last season. He went on loan to Scottish side Rangers in January, but struggled for regular game time. He managed 13 games, scoring three.

Now, he is set to leave United on loan for a second time – joining Sunderland. Hope states that Diallo, who cost Manchester United a princely £28million, is close to joining the Black Cats. A loan deal is on the table for the winger.

Diallo really needs a successful loan stint. Having joined United for a big fee, and earning £28,000 a week, he needs to show United fans what he can do. He has been given the stage of a big club in Sunderland, now it is his time to shine.

Indeed, his time at Rangers did not go to plan. He was an unused substitute in 17 games in all competitions for the Gers. Diallo failed to play a single minute of the Gers’ run to the Europa League final, despite being in all of the squads.

So, Diallo will be hoping to become one of the first names on the team sheet at Sunderland. In what is likely to be a loan until next summer, he will be hoping to play at least 30 times in all competitions, scoring and creating plenty.
