Speaking on the EGTV YouTube channel, Ben Jacobs has been discussing Arsenal and some supposed interest in Wilfried Zaha.

This rumour has been around for almost a decade, but with Zaha entering the final year of his Palace contract, it seems as though there’s now a real chance that this summer could be the one where he finally moves.

According to Jacobs, Zaha is on Arsenal’s radar, but there is the caveat that this would be a difficult deal to do, while if Zaha is to move, Chelsea may be more likely to land him as they can offer Champions League football.

What’s been said?

Jacobs was asked about Zaha’s situation.

“It’s going to need a bidding war because Palace don’t want to sell Zaha. He probably sees this as a real opportunity to make that step up again, and in an Arsenal team or a Chelsea team he’d be a good fit. Proven Premier League goalscorer and a good fit. Arsenal haven’t moved, they’re not preparing a bid at this point, but he is on the radar,” Jacobs said.

“The big challenge with Zaha is that Palace don’t want to sell, but I wouldn’t 100 per cent discount it from an Arsenal point of view. The player is open to a move and ideally wants Champions League football, which is why Chelsea stand more of a chance.”

Champions League pull?

If Zaha harbours ambitions of playing in the Champions League, then maybe he should be choosing Arsenal over Chelsea.

Of course, that sounds ridiculous given that the Blues are in this year’s version of UEFA’s premium competition and Arsenal aren’t, but given how both clubs have started this season, it’s fair to say that Mikel Arteta’s side have a greater chance of playing in the Champions League over the next few years than Chelsea.

Yes, Chelsea would scratch Zaha’s Champions League itch in the short term, but if he wants consistent appearances in that competition, Arsenal could be his best bet at this point.
