Daniel James should stay at Leeds United despite interest from Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur, former England international Trevor Sinclair tells talkSPORT (30 August, 11am).

Anyone criticising James’ impact at Elland Road must consider a rather important factor. During a difficult debut season in West Yorkshire, the turbo-charged Welshman started more games at centre-forward than he did out wide.

Patrick Bamford’s long-standing injury problems mean Leeds fans are yet to really see James get a run of games in his most natural position. And Sinclair believes that the £25 million signing from Manchester United can still silence his critics, providing he stays put between now and the close of the window.

Tottenham and Everton want Leeds United speedstar Daniel James

“I don’t think he should go,” Sinclair says when discussing Tottenham’s interest in the one-time Swansea City whizzkid.

“If he stays at Leeds, he’ll get more game time. He’s still quite a young man and I think he’ll get more experience.

“I like Dan James. I think he’s got more attributes than a lot of people feel. He’s so quick, he can affect games. If he’s end product can be that little bit better, he can be a top player.”

According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham are keen to secure James on a loan-to-buy deal. Everton have also enquired.

Spurs boss Antonio Conte wants a right winger to alternate with the fabulous Dejan Kulusevski. James could perhaps be utilised as a rampaging wing-back too, performing the role Adama Traore would have done had he arrived from Wolverhampton Wanderers during the January transfer window.

Leeds, however, are unlikely to let such a versatile and willing footballer leave so soon before the end of the window. Especially with further incomings appearing less and less possible at Elland Road.

Marsch is keen to reunite with another former Red Bull alumni; Hwang Hee Chan. Wolves’ prohibitive asking price, however, has seen that trail grow cold.
