Arsenal and Newcastle want Edson Alvarez but Chelsea have now made a huge bid to try and sign him before Thursday’s deadline.
It has become quite the summer for Ajax.
Boss Erik ten Hag moved to Manchester United and has taken Lisandro Martinez as well as Antony with him to Old Trafford.
Add in the departures of Ryan Gravenberch, Noussair Mazraoui, Sebastien Haller, Andre Onana and Nicolas Tagliafico and it has been a staggering summer of upheaval for the Amsterdam giants.
Ajax would no doubt love a worry-free deadline day but it sounds like they are facing major interest in a key player
Arsenal and Newcastle want Edson Alvarez
Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez has become a wanted man.
TUDN in his native Mexico reported that Newcastle United offered £25million for Alvarez earlier this month but Ajax said no.
De Telegraaf then added that Newcastle would be willing to pay £34million for Alvarez as they chase a holding midfielder.
90Min reported earlier today that Arsenal have joined the race for Alvarez as Edu targets a new anchor man.
Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny are both out injured right now and Alvarez is viewed as a potential replacement in the Arsenal midfield.
There is now another twist to this saga as De Telegraaf report that Chelsea have now come forward with a huge €50million (£43million) bid for Alvarez.
The Blues lost 2-1 at Southampton on Tuesday and after paying big money for Wesley Fofana, they now want to splash out on Alvarez too.
Ajax are currently telling Alvarez that he can’t go as they don’t want to lose anybody else before the transfer deadline.
However, Alvarez wants to leave, sensing that this is his big chance to play in the Premier League.
If Arsenal do want to sign Alvarez by tomorrow night, they will seemingly need to beat Chelsea to his signature.
