As we near tomorrow’s deadline, Leeds and Arsenal are said to be considering moves for PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo.
It was Melissa Reddy who told people to “keep an eye” on the Gunners as they circle the £25m Netherlands international, whereas the Telegraph mentioned that Leeds – and also Southampton – are interested.
Now, Andrea Radrizzani – the owner of Leeds – has intriguingly interacted with that specific report.
What’s the story?
Well, the Italian has now liked a tweet relaying that rumour on Twitter, adding fuel to the speculation.
You can see a screenshot of the 47-year-old’s Twitter activity below.
Of course, that doesn’t exactly suggest that Gakpo to Leeds is now definitely going to happen, although it is certainly interesting to see that Radrizzani has liked the post.
If Leeds were set to lose out to Arsenal or Southampton in this particular transfer battle, we see no reason why the tweet in question would be something the Italian would like to see online.
Leeds may struggle to beat Arsenal to Cody Gakpo
Unless Leeds are planning to stretch themselves financially, we are not quite sure how Victor Orta is going to afford the signing of Gakpo.
According to the hugely reliable David Ornstein – football correspondent for The Athletic – Leeds do not have the resources to make another permanent signing before tomorrow’s deadline.
There may only be enough wiggle room in the budget for a loan deal.
Having said that, Leeds are actually in the green margin having earned £100m from the sales of Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha, but only spending £88m on the likes of Tyler Adams, Marc Roca, Rasmus Kristensen, Brenden Aaronson and Luis Sinisterra.
In that respect, perhaps Leeds are sending out bluffs to the media in an attempt to surprise people tomorrow.
