Newcastle United are reportedly plotting to open talks to sign Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, with the Blues keen to offload the 28-year-old who is currently out on loan at AC Milan.
According to CalcioMercato, the Magpies are keen to add an experienced midfielder to their ranks before the closure of the transfer window with Bakayoko eyed as a potential option, with the former AS Monaco superstar halfway through a two-year loan spell with the Italian giants.
The Frenchman signed for Chelsea in 2017 for a reported £40m, however, the midfielder’s career has never taken off in west London, with the Blues now hoping to get rid of Bakayoko with Milan unlikely to make his loan spell permanent, with Newcastle now interested in signing the Premier League outcast.
With Nottingham Forest also reportedly interested in Bakayoko, Newcastle face some competition to sign the Chelsea midfielder, yet given the Toon’s strong start to the season and the incredible project Eddie Howe is helming, the Milan loanee could be very tempted to sign for the Magpies this summer.
Indeed, whilst the logistics of such a transfer seem quite challenging, Milan seem eager to cut Bakayoko’s loan deal short should Newcastle come in with an offer to permanently sign the Chelsea man, who Italian footballing legend Paolo Maldini once hailed as a ‘very good’ player.
With Newcastle having the funds to make such a deal happen and Chelsea now than willing to offload yet another wasted big-money signing, there’s a strong chance that this deal could be completed soon, and as for Bakayoko himself, the midfielder could reinvent himself in the northeast under a manager like Howe.
Bakayoko signing could be a worthy gamble for Newcastle this summer

Bakayoko’s career has been a rollercoaster, to say the least, from the highs with Monaco and his loan spell with Napoli to the lows of his time at Chelsea and his second stint in Milan, the Frenchman is in need of some consistency, and signing for Newcastle can offer just that.
The Magpies have already shown with the likes of Joelinton and Miguel Almiron that careers can be turned around in the right system, and for Bakayoko, the French midfielder could be perfect for Howe in what is shaping up to be an exciting season for Newcastle.
