Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk has raised hopes of a potential £30 million move to the Emirates Stadium by liking a post on Instagram linking him with the Premier League giants, via The Metro.
These days, a player’s social media activity can often provide an intriguing peek behind the curtain.
A player holding out for a move knows that, with the eyes of the world on him, all he needs to do is to click that ‘like’ button in order to send speculation into overdrive. And Mudryk certainly did that, amid suggestions that the 21-year-old Ukraine international could join compatriot Oleksandr Zinchenko on the red side of North London.
Will Arsenal sign Shakhtar Donetsk’s Mykayhlo Mudryk?
According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are looking into a late deal for Mudryk. The Gunners are in talks with his representatives, and are currently leading the chase. This comes after Everton failed with a £25 million offer of their own, having potentially identified Mudryk as a replacement for the departed Richarlison (Football24).
Mudryk also confirmed earlier in the summer that he had turned down a move to Brentford.
“With all due respect, I will definitely not go to Brentford,” he explains. “It is a mid-table Premier League club that don’t play European football. And, for me, the most important thing is to play in the Champions League.
“We thanked Brentford for the offer, but we withdrew from negotiations a long time ago.”
Arsenal, of course, cannot offer Champions League football. At least, not yet anyway. Hopes are high at the Emirates these days, however, a run of four wins from four making this Arsenal’s best start to a league season since 2004.
Mudryk, a lightning left-winger who set up nine goals in 19 games last term, would only enhance their prospects of a return to Europe’s top table.
Arsenal loaned Nicolas Pepe to Nice late last week. They have also held discussions with Villarreal regarding Yeremi Pino.
“For me, Mudryk is the best player in Europe in this position,” claims Shakhtar director Darijo Srna. “After (Kylian) Mbappe and Vinicius Junior.
“After Mbappe and Vinicius, I don’t see a third player other than Mudryk in this position in Europe. Mudryk has crazy potential.”
