Alan Shearer has stated he loved the ‘anger’ from Son Heung-min during Tottenham’s 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest on Sunday, as he told Premier League Productions (28/08/22 at 6:40 pm).

In the second half, with the game still in the balance, Antonio Conte opted to haul off the Golden Boot winner of last season and Shearer was ‘really interested’ in how Son threw a strop.

He wasn’t best pleased by that call when walking off and there were also some words from the player as he sat on the bench at the City Ground.

In the end, it was the correct call from Conte because Richarlison was one of the players to come on and he provided Harry Kane with an assist for Tottenham’s second goal of the game.

That sealed the points for the London club, who have maintained their unbeaten start to the new Premier League season and it’s a small matter of West Ham United in midweek.

It’s the norm for players to express their frustration when coming off and Son was no different yesterday, as Shearer backed the player’s actions.

“I was really interested in Son’s reaction to him being subbed,” said Shearer. “I totally understand it. I think it’s a good thing.

“He has shown his anger. He doesn’t want to come off because he realises there are still chances and goals at stake.

“And he realises that Richarlison isn’t just there to sit on the bench. He wants to be in the game as well. There is anger, he feels someone else should come off. Take someone else off. Not him.

“I don’t see that as a problem, in fact, that’s a good thing. You see his reaction, he’s not happy and rightfully so. Take someone else off.”

SON SEARCHING FOR THAT FIRST GOAL

In 2021/22, it was a season to remember for Son because he took his game to the next level and produced his best form since being in England.

With those performances come expectations and that’s why Son’s lack of goals for the new season are being highlighted in such a manner.

But the South Korean star is a class act and it won’t be long before he is wheeling away in celebration.

However, will Son start against West Ham on Wednesday night? This isn’t a case of him not being good enough, but a chance for Conte to rotate his squad ahead of a packed fixture list and also playing Richarlison who had an impact at Forest.
