Jamie Carragher has told Sky Sports’ coverage of Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday that Emerson Royal was “stupid” for diving in on Harry Toffolo just a few minutes into the clash. Harry Kane scored a brace.
Kane, 29, took his tally of Premier League goals to a whopping 187 – level with Andy Cole. The England skipper opened the scoring with his first chance, placing an effort into the bottom corner from 18 yards out. Forest had their chances.
Morgan Gibbs-White, Brennan Johnson and Lewis O’Brien all tested Hugo Lloris. But Spurs kept a second clean sheet in two games with a 2-0 win. Kane did miss a penalty, thanks to Dean Henderson – but made it 2-0 late on.
A gorgeous Richarlison cross was headed into the back of the net by an unmarked Kane. Four league goals for the season for Kane now, who seems to have ridded himself of a slow start in August, in previous Premier League seasons.

But inside the first few minutes, a low cross from the Forest right saw Emerson scuff a clearance towards the flank. Chasing after it, he dived into the back of Toffolo and was lucky to avoid a card. Carragher was criticial, on co-comms.
“What a stupid challenge. What is he thinking? Emerson Royal has got a habit of doing things like that,” Carragher said during Sunday afternoon’s 2-0 win for Spurs at the City Ground, as per Sky Sports (Sunday, 4:35PM).
Carragher: Royal ‘stupid’ as Tottenham win 2-0
It was a performance that Tottenham fans are beginning to become accustomed to, under Antonio Conte. Not performing at their best, far from it, but compact and solid – and getting the win. A very un-spursy performance.
Kane got both, and that will be another positive for Spurs – scoring plenty already at this stage. But Carragher is right, Royal does have a “habit” of diving in and making mistakes. If Conte could improve one area in his side, it is Royal.
