Speaking on the NUFC Matters YouTube channel, Ben Jacobs has been discussing Newcastle United’s interest in Lucas Paqueta.
The Lyon midfielder is the subject of a lot of speculation around a move to West Ham United at the moment, but according to Jacobs, Newcastle feel that they may still have a great chance of landing the Brazilian if they decide to move for him.
Indeed, Jacobs says that due to the direction the club is moving and Paqueta’s pre-existing relationship with Bruno Guimaraes, Newcastle believe they have just as good a chance as West Ham of landing the Brazilian.
What’s been said?
Jacobs shared what he knows about Paqueta.
“Paqueta is a bargain at that price, and it’s not a hijack for me, not as I understand it anyway. Newcastle are being very sensible and they’re in the shadows. They still believe that if they can afford Paqueta and if they can afford him, with the Bruno connection and where they’re heading, they have as good, if not a better chance than West Ham United,” Jacobs said.
Get him if you can
If Newcastle’s budget stretches to signing Lucas Paqueta after landing Alexander Isak they should be all over this transfer.
The Magpies have been desperate for a creative midfielder all summer long, and Paqueta could be the answer to their prayers.
A midfield of Paqueta, Joelinton and Guimaraes would be absolutely fantastic, the three Brazilians would complement each other brilliantly, while Paqueta’s pre-existing relationship with Guimaraes would also be a real help in terms of settling in.
This could be a brilliant signing for the Magpies, and while FFP may prove to be a hurdle, Newcastle should be trying to complete this transfer if it’s possible.
