PSG have reportedly launched a surprise €70m (£59m) to sign Manchester City playmaker Bernardo Silva, who the Premier League champions have no intention of letting go this late in the transfer window.

According to L’Equipe, the French giants have this week reignited efforts to bring the Portuguese international to Paris by submitting a £59m bid to sign Silva, an offer that has been rejected by City as the English giants have stated they are done with their transfer business this summer.

CEO Ferran Soriano recently claimed after City’s charity match against FC Barcelona that the Manchester giants had completed their moves for the window, meaning that PSG stand next-to-no chance of signing Silva despite making a late offer for the 28-year-old this week,

As one of City’s most important players, Silva has this summer been valued by the club at £84m, nowhere near what PSG have offered for the midfielder in the past few days, and as a result, it’s no wonder why the French giants have had a bid rejected for the former AS Monaco star.

Indeed, whilst Silva could have been open to a move to Paris, with the playmaker having a strong relationship with sporting director Luis Campos, the ship for a move has sailed long ago, with Pep Guardiola simply having no time to find a replacement before Thursday’s deadline next week that can even match the quality the midfielder can provide.

PSG have played it pretty safe all summer when it comes to their signings, bringing in players who have the quality to elevate the squad and straying away from superstar names we have come to expect the French giants to move for, yet Silva is a break from that philosophy, and not in a good way.

Whilst one can argue that a quality creative midfielder like Silva could be perfect alongside a Marco Veratti, moving to sign the City star at this stage of the window is a strange ploy from PSG, and as we can see, it is one that has blown up in their faces big time, with the talisman playmaker set to remain in England for the time being.
