Matthew Upson has claimed that the ‘fearless’ Anthony Gordon would be a ‘big loss’ to Everton if he secures a transfer to Chelsea, as he told the Football Show on Sky Sports.

The former Premier League defender added that he expects Gordon to join Chelsea, as Frank Lampard has a big call to make on whether to cash in on the English winger.

The 21-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough season last time out by helping his struggling boyhood club survive relegation to the Championship for the first time in over half a century.

Despite Gordon’s inexperience, young age and the fact that he is yet to play on the international or European stage, it seems as though Chelsea are willing to in big for the player.

The fee £60 million has been talked about for the all-action winger and whilst Everton don’t want to lose such a key player for Lampard’s forward plans, his time might just be up.

“I think it would be a big loss to Everton,” said Upson. “I say that in the way when I look at Anthony Gordon’s contribution to the team and the way that he plays.

“He’s a fearless young player. He’s playing, at the minute, at a club that’s had a lot of pressure. It’s been a bit doom and gloom and they have just about hung on. It’s a little bit overcast, so how he plays is a breath of fresh air.

“He’s very direct and has pace. He’s been outstanding in attack. Yes, a number nine is needed and he will be a big miss.

“Whether or not he will go, it’s a lot of money. Chelsea keep calling, so there may well be a point where he will go, but I think he’s an excellent player and a big loss for Everton.”

£60M TOO GOOD TO TURN DOWN FOR EVERTON?

Lampard has already watched Richarlison walk out of the doors this summer and it would be an even bigger blow if Gordon follows him to the capital or will it?!

But, at the end of the day, Richarlison is an experienced performer and an international player, whose transfer helped financially-hit Everton do business in the transfer market.

Gordon is years behind the player and the rumoured £60 million being put down on the table might just be too good to turn down for the Merseyside giants.

The key thing here is that if Everton can get in a few players with that money, then they might just be happy to see Gordon leave because, in the long run, it might just work out a treat.
