According to El Diario Vasco, Newcastle have completed the signing of Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad.
What’s the story?
Well, the Magpies have been pursuing the £48,000-a-week man for most of the summer, but it looked as if a deal would be too difficult to complete.
However, Real Sociedad have now decided to let Isak leave after Newcastle made one final offer worth €70m (£59m).
El Diario Vasco add that the deal could even reach €75m (£63m) if some add-ons are met.
It represents a club-record sale for Real Sociedad, and the Sweden international will also become Newcastle’s club-record signing, leapfrogging Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton who both cost £40m.
Isak will now travel to Tyneside to discuss personal terms with the Magpies, before undergoing a medical.
Real Sociedad have made a significant profit on the striker likened to Zlatan Ibrahimovic – the Spanish side signed him for just €10m (£8m) from Borussia Dortmund in 2019.
Isak’s big move to the Premier League comes after he scored ten goals and provided three assists in 41 appearances last season.
Newcastle have a potential superstar in Alexander Isak
In our view, Newcastle have signed a potential star of the future in Isak.
Of course, his record of ten goals last season is a bit worrying for a player costing £59m – however, the general feeling is that the Swede is yet to truly explode as a footballer.
After all, Alan Shearer believes Isak is a “magnificent” footballer – the Newcastle legend knows a thing or two about scoring goals, so if he rates the 22-year-old, then you probably should as well.
Under the guidance of Eddie Howe, and with a livewire in Allan Saint-Maximin supplying him with chances, we are confident the youngster will shine at St James’ Park – whatever happens, this is a huge statement by Newcastle.
