Jamie Carragher has said on Twitter that Newcastle United right-back Kieran Trippier should have been sent off against Manchester City at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Sunday.

The former Liverpool defender and Sky Sports pundit believes that Trippier should have been dismissed for his challenge on Kevin De Bruyne.

In the 73rd minute of the match, Manchester City midfielder De Bruyne skipped past former Tottenham right-back Trippier.

The England international right-back then lunged in to stop the Belgium international midfielder.

The referee gave Trippier a straight red card.

The match was 3-3 at the time.

However, VAR then got involved, and the referee went to the screen to check the incident.

Jarred Gillett overturned his own decision and gave Trippier a yellow card instead.

Carragher does not agree, as you can see from his tweet below.
