As you may have heard, Manchester United are close to signing Casemiro from Real Madrid ahead of the Premier League clash with Liverpool on Monday.

The Red Devils have agreed to pay Real Madrid an initial sum of £50.7m for the Brazil international, with a further £8.5m in add-ons.

Casemiro is set to sign a four-year contract at Old Trafford, believed to be worth in the region of £350,000-a-week.

It is a huge signing for Erik ten Hag. The South American is a five-time Champions League winner, who has made 336 appearances for Real Madrid, while also winning 63 caps for Brazil.

However, Jürgen Klopp could soon sign someone better than Casemiro.

What’s the story?

Well, the German has already squashed speculation that he could sign a new central midfielder, although anything is possible between now and the August 31st deadline – especially after claims that Naby Keita is unhappy.

Despite Klopp’s comments, Liverpool are said to be interested in signing Marcelo Brozovic from Inter Milan to boost their midfield department, and a statistic has now emerged which shows why the Reds must sign him.

As you can see, the Croatia international is actually more effective at regaining possession than Casemiro – a man who has been described as the best defensive midfielder in Europe.

As we all know, Klopp tends to adopt an intense, energetic style, which focuses on retrieving the ball from the opposition quickly and attacking with speed.

Clearly, Brozovic excels at that, and he is also performing at a rate of impressive consistency – the Inter Milan No.77, who cost the Italian giants just €8m (£7m), was named Midfielder of the Year in Serie A last season.

Liverpool can outdo Casemiro deal

In recent times, Liverpool have made fools of the rest of the Premier League by unearthing some absolute bargains.

For example, the £8m deal for Andy Robertson was a stupendous bit of business, while others will surely have kicked themselves for ignoring Mohamed Salah for just £34m.

Now, if those at Anfield sign Brozovic for a fraction of the Casemiro fee, and he ends up outdoing the Brazilian in the Premier League – which is highly possible given the aforementioned statistic – it would be a dream for Liverpool fans.
