Speaking on The Done Deal Show, Ben Jacobs has been discussing Moises Caicedo’s situation in the transfer window.
The Ecuadorian midfielder burst onto the scene in the Premier League earlier this year, and despite only playing a handful of games in the English top-flight, he’s already being linked with a move away from Brighton to one of the Premier League’s elite clubs.
Arsenal and Manchester United have been credited with an interest, but according to Jacobs, Newcastle United have a plan in place to sign the 20-year-old next summer.
Dan Ashworth was, of course, the man who brokered the initial deal to bring Caicedo to Brighton and it seems as though he’s keen to reunite with him on Tyneside.
What’s been said?
The journalist shared what he knows about Caicedo.
“From Caicedo’s perspective he hasn’t played many Premier League games, only eight appearances last season so what you’re buying is someone to develop for the future,” Jacobs said.
“The perspective of Brighton is that they don’t want to sell and they’re not expecting any offers between now and the end of the window. There’s a lot of interest. Dan Ashworth is up at Newcastle, he knows the player and he likes him. Newcastle have a plan and a strategy from what I understand to think about bringing him on board in a years’ time. Liverpool and Arsenal have tracked the player as well.”
Might not get the chance
Newcastle have a plan in place to sign Caicedo in the summer of 2023, but they may not get the chance to if he makes a move this summer.
Indeed, Manchester United and Arsenal’s interest seems to be genuine and immediate, and if they get their hands on the South American first, a move to St James’ Park could be off the cards.
It’s understandable why Newcastle don’t want to pull the trigger right now. After all, he’s only ever played 10 Premier League games, but they may be beaten to the punch by one of their rivals on this one.
