Speaking on the Que Golazo Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has been discussing Arsenal’s hunt for a new midfield player.
The Gunners are in the market for a new midfielder. They’ve been linked with the likes of Lucas Paqueta and Moises Caicedo as of late, but according to Romano, Youri Tielemans remains at the top of their wish list.
The Belgian has been linked with a move to Arsenal for what seems to be an absolute eternity, and while things have gone quiet on that front in recent weeks, the journalist maintains that Tielemans has always been at the top of Arsenal’s midfield wish list.
What’s been said?
Romano discussed Arsenal’s transfer plans.
“The midfielder, it has always been Tielemans at the top of the list for Arsenal, but still no official bid to Leicester. I’m told Arsenal are still focused on outgoings,” Romano said.
“The roles they have been following are a midfielder and a winger, but it depends, Arsenal have a very good strategy. For example, if you asked me the same question in January I’d say they wanted a striker, but they didn’t waste money on a player they didn’t trust because they couldn’t get Vlahovic, they waited and got Gabriel Jesus in the summer.”
When will they move?
If Tielemans is indeed at the top of Arsenal’s wish list, we have to wonder when the Gunners will actually make their move for the Belgian.
It’s been reported for absolutely ages that Tielemans is waiting for Arsenal to come in for him, but, as of yet, they’ve not opened negotiations with Leicester.
We can’t help but wonder why this is. As Romano says, the club are massive fans of the player, and while they only want to sign players who will be surefire successes, Tielemans has shown enough in the Premier League to suggest that he would be.
This is something of a baffling saga, and we may not get a conclusion for some time yet.
