West Ham United are set to sign Thilo Kehrer and appear to have struck a deal worth just £10million plus add-ons.
The Hammers have been chasing a new centre back over the last 10 days or so having sold Issa Diop to London rivals Fulham.
David Moyes wants additional depth at the back, hoping to add competition for the likes of Kurt Zouma and injured summer signing Nayef Aguerd.
Versatility to play as a full back is highly valued too, and West Ham appear to be signing the ideal signing for those requirements.
West Ham United are set to sign Thilo Kehrer
It quickly became clear last week that Paris Saint-Germain defender Kehrer had become Moyes’ top target.
The Hammers opened talks and were told to pay around £17million for Kehrer, who cost PSG a huge £33million back in the summer of 2018.
Sky Sports report that West Ham have now struck a deal for Kehrer – and it’s cheaper than first expected.
It’s stated that West Ham are paying just £10million plus add-ons for Kehrer, with the defender undergoing a medical with Moyes’ men.
Kehrer has picked West Ham over Sevilla and a deal could be announced as soon as today.
It’s unclear how much the add-ons are worth, but £10million up front when quoted £17million looks like a great deal for West Ham.
Add in that Kehrer cost more than £30million just four years ago and West Ham will feel that they have secured a bargain.
Kehrer, 25, emerged as a top prospect in Germany with Schalke, tempting PSG into signing him.
First-team action hasn’t come easily for Kehrer but he has notched more than 20 league appearances in three of his four seasons with PSG.
A regular with the German national team, Kehrer can play all across the back four and his arrival looks to be a real coup for West Ham, with his versatility perfect for what Moyes wanted.
