Tanguy Ndombele has rejected Everton and Fulham, telling Tottenham Hotspur that he only wants to sign for Napoli this summer.

Tottenham thought they had landed a superstar when they won the race to sign Ndombele back in the summer of 2019.

Europe’s elite had all looked into signing Ndombele but Tottenham struck with a club-record £55million deal for the Lyon star.

A strong yet silky midfielder on the ball, possessing the ability to drive past players in the middle of the pitch, Ndombele looked like the perfect replacement for Mousa Dembele.

Yet that dream move has turned into a nightmare with Ndombele unwanted by Tottenham having failed to live up to his billing under five managers now.

Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho wanted to see more from Ndombele. Ryan Mason didn’t seem convinced. Nuno Espirito Santo felt a similar way to Pochettino and Mourinho before Antonio Conte effectively froze him out.

The Frenchman spent the second half of last season back on loan at Lyon but failed to impress once again.

It’s a shame to see so much natural talent going to waste but unless Ndombele can turn things around, he will be a case of ‘what could have been’.

Ndombele has no future at Tottenham and is now on the verge of leaving but Everton have missed out on his signing.

Area Napoli report that Ndombele has received offers from Everton and Fulham but has rejected both, telling Tottenham that he wants to join Napoli.

There is still work to be done on that deal though; Napoli want to pay €700,000 (£588,000) for a season-long loan deal with option to buy at €30million (£25million), but Tottenham want a €2million (£1.68million) loan fee.

Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti is thought to be a big fan of Ndombele and seemingly thinks that he can get the Spurs misfit back on track.

That’s an exciting prospect for Ndombele, but it’s a surprise to hear that Everton are interested.

Ndombele doesn’t really seem like a Frank Lampard player and Everton have already failed once at trying to rejuvenate one of Tottenham’s wayward talents in Dele Alli.

Everton signing Ndombele would have been a huge surprise but it looks like the midfielder has other ideas in mind anyway, focusing solely on Napoli.
