The Daily Star claim in Wednesday’s paper edition (17/08, p45) that Leeds United value goalkeeper Illan Meslier at a fee of £25m – amid reports that Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are showing interest in the Frenchman.
Meslier, 22, is already one of the first names on the team sheet at Elland Road. Despite being incredibly young for a goalkeeper, the ex-Lorient stopper has already clocked up 90 appearances in all competitions for the Yorkshire side.
While he has only managed 25 clean sheets, and conceded 142 goals, much of that can be attributed to playing under Marcelo Bielsa. A Leeds side that were focused on scoring more than the other side, rather than shutting up shop.
Reports state that both Tottenham and Manchester United have shown interest in Meslier. A player that has been branded “phenomenal” by ex-England and Leeds stopper Rob Green. He has a contract at Leeds until 2026.

Now, the report from the Daily Star claims Leeds value Meslier at a fee of £25million. That is, £20million more than they paid. However, it also remains unlikely that Leeds will cash in this summer, after losing Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips.
Leeds value Meslier at £25m: Tottenham and Manchester United interest
As aforementioned, there is little chance that Meslier leaves the club this summer. Leeds have already brought in six new players, and sold Phillips and Raphinha – making the net spend close to zero.
So, even if Leeds wanted to bring in a couple of other players this summer, they have not actually spent anything so far this summer. Even though, Luis Sinisterra, Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams cost a combined £70million.
Meslier is crucial to Leeds. For Meslier, too, his best move is to remain at Leeds. At Manchester United, he will be second choice to David De Gea and at Tottenham, to Hugo Lloris. So, a move is unlikely – one for the future, perhaps.
