Journalist says ‘Paratici really likes’ one midfielder, but there’s a ‘problem’

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold has been discussing Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Manchester United’s James Garner.

The north London outfit have been credited with an interest in Garner over the past 48 hours, and one report even stated that an opening bid has been made.

However, the ever-reliable Gold is led to believe that those reports are wide of the mark.

Indeed, the journalist states that while Tottenham are keen on Garner, they’re yet to decide whether or not to make a move for him as they don’t think they can guarantee him minutes in the upcoming season.

Gold shared what he knows about Garner and Spurs.

“James Garner, the 21-year-old Manchester United player. From what I understand, Fabio Paratici really likes him. Whenever he saw Djed Spence playing last season he came back really impressed by James Garner. A central midfielder, plays more of a defensive midfielder but can push up the pitch a bit. He was on loan at Nottingham Forest last season, helped them get up. Every time Paratici went to watch Spence he came away raving about Garner,” Gold said.

“The issue is, Manchester United are willing to let him go for around £15m, but from what I understand, I don’t think Spurs have decided whether or not they’ll make a move. The problem is gametime for him, he’s unlikely to get it at Spurs. So whether Spurs would be able to sign him and loan him out, players don’t often like the idea of that.”

Ace up their sleeve

Tottenham may struggle to convince Garner to join the club due to their inability to offer him minutes this season, but they may have an ace up their sleeve.

Indeed, Tottenham have already signed Djed Spence this summer, and offering Garner the chance to reunite with his former Nottingham Forest teammate could be appetising.

Garner has previously stated that Spence is a dream to play with, and while he may not go straight into the first-team at Spurs, the chance to progress alongside Spence may entice him.

This is certainly one to keep an eye on in the coming days.
