West Ham United want Thilo Kehrer and could have a deal wrapped up for the Paris Saint-Germain defender this week.

The Hammers are in the market for a new defender having sold Issa Diop to Fulham.

Summer signing Nayef Aguerd is injured so another centre back is wanted, preferably with versatility to play in full back roles when needed.

A number of targets have been suggested for that role but the main name over the last week has been Kehrer – and a move appears to be drawing closer.

West Ham United want Thilo Kehrer

Reports last week indicated that West Ham had picked out Kehrer as their top defensive target and had opened talks with PSG over a deal.

PSG allegedly wanted £17million for Kehrer – despite paying £33million for him in 2018 – and West Ham’s first offer fell short of the asking price.

Fabrizio Romano then reported on Monday that PSG are ‘hopeful’ of selling Kehrer this week with West Ham leading the race.

Romano has another update today, claiming that West Ham are now ‘close’ to completing the signing of Kehrer.

Kehrer is understood to prefer West Ham over a move to Sevilla and has even agreed personal terms with the Hammers.

A meeting took place on Monday and Kehrer is now edging closer to joining West Ham.

Sevilla have seemingly given up and are now focused on signing Bayern Munich defender Tanguy Kouassi, another player linked with West Ham.

Kehrer, 25, needs first-team football and that isn’t really going to happen at PSG.

Germany boss Hansi Flick has hailed Kehrer as a ‘complete player’ but first-team action is needed for a spot at the World Cup later this year.

Kehrer can play all across the back four and that should appeal to David Moyes, who will be delighted at this apparent breakthrough for the former Schalke star.
