Aston Villa are still reportedly keen on selling Kortney Hause this summer despite news this Monday that Diego Carlos could miss the rest of the season, with Watford already in talks to sign the defender.
According to the Athletic, the Brazilian’s Achilles injury has done little to dismay Steven Gerrard from selling Hause this summer, with another report from the Atheltic claiming that Watford are in talks to sign the 27-year-old centre-back over a potential loan move.
Hause only made nine appearances in all competitions last season with the former Wolves star mainly being used as backup to the likes of Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa, and the signing of Carlos this summer shoved the defender even further down the pecking order.
Indeed, whilst injury to the Brazilian could have opened the door for Hause to return to Gerrard’s set-up, it appears that the Villa manager is still intent on offloading the defender, with Watford now in talks to sign the centre-back for the season.
The Hornets have enjoyed a strong start to the season with the Vicarage Road side winning two and drawing one of their opening three Championship games, with Watford also conceding just one goal in the league as of writing, and the signing of Hause could further improve Rob Edwards’ backline.
Indeed, Hause has proven in patches to be a quality defender on his day in the Premier League, and signing for a Championship side like Watford could give the centre-back the opportunity he needs to impress those at Villa and to get his top-flight career back on track.
Hause signing for Watford could be the perfect move this summer

Villa’s centre-back issues have reached a breaking point with Carlos now set to miss the rest of the season, yet for Hause, leaving for a loan move to Watford could be the best decision the defender makes this summer, with the Championship perfect for the 27-year-old’s career.
With Watford strong favourites for promotion and Edwards already getting the Hornets ticking, Hause could be an ideal addition for the Hertfordshire side this season, especially with Villa keen to offload the former Wolves defender for the year despite their lack of depth in the centre-back position.
