Italian outlet CMW claim Aston Villa are interested in signing Juventus defender Daniele Rugani as a replacement for Diego Carlos – after the Brazilian suffered an ankle ligament injury. Rugani almost joined Wolves three years ago.
Rugani, 28, is on the transfer list at Juventus. He was afforded just 18 appearances by Max Allegri last season. Juventus have lost Giorgio Chiellini and Matthijs de Ligt but have brought in Brazilian centre-back Gleison Bremer from Torino.
With Carlos now on the sidelines, Villa are left with Tyrone Mings – a target for West Ham – and Ezri Konsa. Calum Chambers is also an option but hardly one that is going to start every game. So, Villa need a new centre-back.
The report claims Villa have shown interest in Rugani, and Italy international. Juventus are expecting an offer. Reports back in 2019 claim Wolves held talks to sign the defender, tabling a £30million offer to land the Juve defender.

Steven Gerrard is right to pursue a defender. The form of Mings dipped last season, Konsa has been in and out of the side this season, Chambers has a history of injury issues and unfortunately for Hause, he is simply not good enough.
So, bringing in a new defender has become a priority. They are unlikely to spend the kind of cash that Carlos cost. But signing a player like Rugani gives Villa a full international. A player with a winning mentality and a good attitude.
He has been on the books at Juventus for seven years, but managed just 119 appearances. He has been made to wait for his chance and those chances have been few and far between. So, he clearly has a good attitude.
Rugani would be a top addition. Experience, versatility in a back three or four, and plenty of quality. With Juventus keen to sell, his price tag is not going to be on a similar level to the fee Wolves were willing to pay in 2019.
