Manchester United are now reportedly in talks to sign Espanyol striker Raul De Tomas, with the Spanish international also on Arsenal and Newcastle United’s radars this summer.

According to Cope, the Red Devils have opened discussions with the La Liga side over the signing of the 27-year-old forward, with Tomas being valued in the January transfer window at £60m as both Arsenal and Newcastle looked to sign the Espanyol superstar, with the English clubs this summer again being linked with the striker.

However, as per Cope, Espanyol are now willing to accept a much lower fee for Tomas, with €30m (£25m) the maximum asking price for the United target, with Erik Ten Hag seemingly eager to sign a natural finisher for the Red Devils in the final weeks of the transfer window.

United are yet to score a goal in the Premier League in their opening two games with the Red Devils recently enduring another embarrassing loss as Brentford crushed the Manchester giants 4-0 in west London, with Arsenal and Newcastle both once again picking up points.

With Tomas one of the highest-scoring Spaniards in Europe last season and Espanyol lowering their asking price for their star striker, it makes sense why United have now turned their attentions to signing the 27-year-old attacker despite interest from Arsenal and Newcastle.

Indeed, United are desperate for a striker who is capable of staying fit and hitting the back of the net, and with Cristiano Ronaldo determined to leave Old Trafford, Tomas could be a smart replacement for the Portuguese legend should the 37-year-old leave England for a second time in his career.

United are nothing short of a mess right now, and Ten Hag only has so much time to fix as much as he can before the closure of the transfer window at the end of this month, and the Dutch manager should be looking to sign Tomas with Arsenal and Newcastle also keen on the Spaniard this summer.

With Espanyol only valuing the forward at £25m, United have the chance to land a talented attacker in the prime of his career and to beat rivals Arsenal and Newcastle to a target for either side, something which could effect both clubs’ transfer plans for the remainder of the window.
