Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea are competing with Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City for RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol, according to The Daily Mail.

The Daily Mail have reported that Chelsea have held talks with Gvardiol’s agent Marjan Šišić.

Leipzig, though, are determined to hold onto the Croatia international, who can operate as a centre-back or as a left-back.

Described as a player who is “strong, fast, intelligent, dynamic, courageous, gifted with good technique and capable of anticipating his opponent” by Šišić in FC Inter News in May 2022, the 20-year-old is valued at £50 million (The Telegraph, June 2022).

Chelsea over Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City for Josko Gvardiol

In our opinion, Chelsea are more likely than Tottenham Hotspur or Manchester City to sign Joško Gvardiol from RB Leipzig in the summer transfer window.

Now, while Tottenham and defending Premier League champions City could do with another centre-back, they are not in desperate need of one.

Chelsea are.

Yes, Chelsea are in talks with Leicester City for Wesley Fofana, but the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners need to have back-up options.

Gvardiol, 20, has made two substitute appearances in the Bundesliga so far this season

The defender scored two goals and gave two assists in 28 Bundesliga starts last season.
