Whisper it, but a Newcastle United target from January is set to leave his current club this summer.
The Magpies have enjoyed an excellent window but Eddie Howe still desperately needs another striker.
Talented as Callum Wilson might be, Newcastle need a 20-goal-a-season hitman and he, nor Chris Wood, will reach that.
Mauro Icardi might not either, but the St James’s Park outfit wanted him in January and if they remain interested, he’s available.
Paris Saint-Germain boss Christophe Galtier revealed on Friday via The Daily Mail that the Argentina international will be leaving the French capital this summer.
He said: “The club is working closely with Mauro to find the best possible solution. Mauro has had very little playing time in the last few seasons, I think it is important for him to get back on track. I think it is important for him to get back into the game.”
Will Newcastle sign Icardi?
Well, stranger things have happened.
After all, they renewed their interest in Sven Botman, another January target and someone who they successfully signed this summer.
And the longer it goes without Newcastle getting a number nine, and Icardi – a £42 million signing in 2020 – finding a suitor, the more likely it is that the duo will end up with one another.
