According to Media Foot, Newcastle are now leading the race to sign Tanguy Ndombele from Tottenham.
The French midfielder hasn’t had the best of times in the Premier League, but he’s certainly got bags of ability that can be unlocked.
Indeed, Ndombele is a fantastic player on his day, and one man who is a fan of his is Newcastle United star Kieran Trippier.
Trippier never actually got the chance to play with Ndombele at Tottenham, but he’s observed the player and heard good things about him from his former teammates.
What’s been said?
Trippier discussed Ndombele replacing Mousa Dembele on his appearance on The Beautiful Game Podcast.
“I’ve not played with [Ndombele] but I’ve seen him play. From what I hear he’s unbelievable and supposedly he’s frightening,” said Trippier.
“They’ve got quality players, but, for me, the little fine margins of winning something is obviously when Mousa left. That’s my opinion. As a player you don’t want to see a player like Mousa leave. especially in January. Unless there was something that he needed to leave or whatever, I honestly don’t know.”
Chance to thrive
Ndombele really hasn’t cut the mustard during his time at Tottenham, but there’s reason to believe he’d fare better at Newcastle.
In an all-action midfield alongside Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton, Ndombele wouldn’t necessarily have to do all that much running, and that’s where his game starts to fall down.
If he’s given a role solely as a creator and allows the two Brazilians to do most of the dirty work, Ndombele could be a star for Newcastle.
Trippier says that he’s a frightening player, and while he’s not shown that too often at Tottenham, there have been glimpses of what he can do.
Ndombele would be a risk for Newcastle, but it’s one that could pay off.
