According to L’Equipe, Paris Saint-Germain are now interested in signing Mohamed Simakan, who Tottenham are monitoring.
What’s the story?
Well, this is not good news for Spurs fans who were hoping to see the Frenchman in N17.
L’Equipe believe PSG – who have adopted a new transfer approach under Luis Campos – are now keen to sign Simakan if they cannot get their hands on Milan Skriniar.
Interestingly, Skriniar has been a primary target for Tottenham in the past, as José Mourinho was supposedly infatuated with the idea of bringing him to Hotspur Way.
The French giants have already snapped up wonderkids such as Hugo Ekitike and Vitinha as they look to freshen up their squad, and the 22-year-old is now on their radar.
Simakan – who has been called “the new Raphael Varane” – shone for RB Leipzig in the 2021/22 campaign, making 40 appearances in all competitions as they won the DFB-Pokal, also known as the German Cup.
He is undoubtedly one of the brightest talents in Europe at the moment, and if Tottenham miss out on him to PSG, Antonio Conte will surely be saddened.
It comes after West Ham missed out on a deal for Simakan, while Wolves and Everton have also been keen to sign him in the past.
Tottenham may have one chance to sign PSG target

In our view, this is the only chance Tottenham will have to sign Simakan before his value soars.
For example, Jules Kounde recently joined Barcelona for €60m (£51m), so if PSG get their hands on the RB Leipzig No.2 and sign him to a lengthy contract, he may not be available for at least five years – unless a huge offer is made.
Having said that, PSG do not exactly need the money from sales due to their wealthy owners, so if the Parisians beat Tottenham to Simakan now, Spurs may live to regret it.
