West Ham United want Thilo Kehrer and have made a new offer having failed with their first bid for the Paris Saint-Germain defender.

The focus at West Ham is now completely placed on signing a new central defender.

It’s bad enough for David Moyes at the moment with the likes of Craig Dawson, Angelo Ogbonna and new signing Nayef Aguerd all out injured.

Yet with Issa Diop now heading to Fulham this week, West Ham certainly need to go and sign another defender.

A number of names have been linked in recent days but the strongest rumour has been with Kehrer.

West Ham United want Thilo Kehrer

The London Evening Standard noted earlier this week that West Ham want Kehrer, whilst Sky Sports suggested that talks had been opened with PSG.

The Daily Mail even reported that PSG would sell for around £17million, a major cut on the £33million they paid for Kehrer in 2018.

Sky now have an update, claiming that West Ham’s first offer has been rejected by PSG.

The Hammers aren’t giving up there though and have immediately launched an improved offer, but no figures are mentioned.

Kehrer, 25, was a promising young defender in Germany with Schalke before PSG snapped him up.

Kehrer’s versatility is outstanding, as he can play all across the back four and is comfortable on both feet.

Yet it also means that he has been viewed as something of a utility squad player, failing to really nail down a regular role in the PSG side.

With the World Cup around the corner, Kehrer will need first-team action if he is to get into Hansi Flick’s squad for Qatar.

Flick has called Kehrer a ‘complete player’, so first-team football could secure him that spot in the Germany squad.

West Ham can offer that opportunity and whilst more money is now needed, the Hammers may feel it’s worth pushing the boat out.
