Burnley look set to miss out on Darko Churlinov with Vincent Kompany’s former club Anderlecht agreeing terms with the £4 million-rated Stuttgart winger, as reported by Sky Germany.

Revenge, as they say, is best served on a baking mid-August afternoon with a side dish of North Macedonian spice.

After all-but ruling out the prospect of a raid on his old employers at the start of the window, Vincent Kompany then went back on his word, luring Josh Cullen away from Anderlecht while also coming within touching distance of goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen too.

Now, it’s Anderlecht’s turn to get their own back.

Burnley miss out on Stuttgart’s Darko Churlinov

According to Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg, the Jupiler League giants have agreed personal terms with Stuttgart’s Macedonian forward Darko Churlinov.

Kompany, Plettenberg adds, was hoping to luring the 22-year-old to Turf Moor. But with Burnley only willing to pay £2.5 million – around half the fee Stuttgart wanted – Churlinov will instead join the club Kompany walked away from in order to take Sean Dyche’s place in the Clarets dugout.

Interestingly, Stuttgart director Sven Mislintant insisted only a couple of days ago that Churlinov was not for sale.

“We are happy that Darko is with us and don’t intend to sell him,” said the former Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund talentspotter, welcoming the winger back to the Mercedes Benz Arena after an impressive loan spell at Bundesliga.2 champions Schalke.

“Darko is good for us with his energy. An absolute mentality monster.”

Mislintant’s very public rebuttal of those transfer rumours appear to be at odds with Stuttgart’s behind-the-scenes business, however, with the side from Swabia willing to cash in as long as Anderlecht meet their £4 million asking price.

Burnley have signed 10 players already this summer; Four of whom arrived from Belgian football. Missing out on Churlinov could see the Clarets step up their pursuit of Sporting Lisbon’s Jovane Cabral.
